About Our Practice
Dr. Michael J. Nienhuis
Michael J. Nienhuis, M.D., started his medical career as a social worker helping people at facilities throughout the Midlands. He was drawn to medicine and received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina in 2002. He completed his residency in Family and Preventive Medicine at Palmetto Health Richland Hospital.
Dr. Nienhuis graduated from Spartanburg High School in 1985 and moved to Columbia to attend the University of South Carolina. He earned a bachelor's degree in English literature in 1989 and a master's degree in social work in 1994.
Dr. Nienhuis is board-certified in Family Medicine, providing comprehensive medical care to adults and children. He resides in Blythewood with his wife and two sons. He is an avid cyclist and runner, enjoys reading, and volunteers at the Columbia Free Medical Clinic.
Dr. Vanessa K. Wideman

Vanessa K. Wideman, M.D., returns to Columbia after extensive medical service in the U.S. Air Force. She is a graduate of Keenan High School, Duke University and the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
Dr. Wideman spent over four years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and enjoyed the deployments and working with the military. After having her son, she decided to separate from the military and settle down in a practice in her hometown - something she had always envisioned for herself. She is excited about the prospect of being able to take care of families in Columbia.
Dr. Wideman is board-certified in Family Medicine, providing comprehensive medical care to people of all ages. She is married and resides in Columbia. You might catch her out in her neighborhood pushing the baby in a stroller for a power walk! She also enjoys reading, running, spending time with her family and volunteering at the Columbia Free Medical Clinic.
Dr. Donald M. Millus

Donald M. Millus, M.D., received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 1999. After completing his residency in Harlingen, TX, Dr. Millus returned to South Carolina, and has been practicing in Lexington and Columbia since 2002. Most recently, he took over the Providence practice at Lake Carolina in May 2008.
Dr. Millus is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the South Carolina Medical Association, and the Columbia Medical Society. He has actively participated in international medical missions with Volunteers in Medical Missions, the Summer Medical Institute and Greater Europe Mission
